Page naming conventions

From Startup

Jump to: navigation, search

Most businesses divide into manufacturing, retail, services, agriculture and so on. It is not helpful to list, in the alphabetical list, a page starting retail business selling bananas as it will make searching for that business particularly hard.

The naming convention must start with the principle product or service, then the manner in which that service is delivered, and then some other descriptive word - keep the titles short and direct (2 - 4 words).

As a few examples:

  • a business selling shoes is shoe retail, while repairing shoes becomes shoe repairs
  • growing vegetables is vegetable farming, and others could be vegetable distribution, vegetable soup manufacture

And so on.

Be clear, be direct and be brief.
